USA 2016 - Day 6

We were picked up in front of our hotel by a shuttle at 6:20 am and just over an hour later we were on a bus heading for the Grand Canyon. The journey there through a mostly desert landscape took over five and a half hours, including a stop for a buffet lunch at Jackson. After a couple of hours at the Grand Canyon, all of our fellow passengers hopped on the same bus and headed back to Vegas. We, however, had decided to stay a night at the famous El Tovar, a grand old hotel (built in 1905) located right on the edge of the canyon, and catch the bus back the following afternoon. We were so glad we did. The Grand Canyon is spectacular at any time, but it's so much nicer seeing it late in the afternoon and early in the morning when the light is at its best and when all the day-trippers have left. We were also pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food and service at the hotel's restaurant, which helped make our stay even more memorable.

Our bus. The same driver drove to the Grand Canyon and back to Vegas in one day, a distance of over 900 kms!

Our first view of the Grand Canyon (Mathers Point). Somewhere down there is the Colorado River!

Once again, this time in landscape mode!
