We took a bus tour from Civitavecchia, where our ship docked, to Rome. At the Vatican we had to queue for ages in the sweltering heat to gain entry to St. Peter's. The wait was worth it, though. Unfortunately it was a Sunday and so the Sistine Chapel and the Vatican Museum were closed. The art inside St. Peter's itself was still mightily impressive. Some of the other sights in Rome, such as the Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain, left me feeling underwhelmed, though the Colosseum was stunning.
