Hanoi was a shock after the peace and quiet of Quy Nhon. The streets in the old quarter where we were based are narrow, but the constant flow of motorcycles still made crossing them difficult. We only had one full day in the city. In the morning we enjoyed a three-hour walking tour of the Ho Chi Minh Complex and the Temple of Literature (Vietnam's first university) with two local university students as our guides. We had intended to skip the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum due to the expected crowds (it being a Saturday, there were thousands of locals there to pay their respects to "Uncle Ho"), but after learning that we couldn't see the other sights in the area unless we did so, we joined the queue and filed into the building where Ho's embalmed body is on display. In the evening we walked to the little lake near our hotel and then had pizza for dinner.
